Somehow, Starbucks has managed to make the Red Cups something of a cult item.
Simply by saying that everyone waits for them and loves it when they arrive, they've sort of created a reality in which that happens to be the case.
It's a bit like constructing your own perfect lie, believing it passionately yourself, telling everyone that it is the truth and then, thereby, turning it into the truth.
Extraordinary.
Anyway, that muse aside, they've done some cute things with their own AR app (US and Canada only, as far as I can make out). You point it at the cups and you get an animation that you can then interact with.
A neat piece of work from a brand that really is leading the way in mass-market marketing via technology ... (oooh, that's probably a controversial statement ...).
