THAT THRESHERS STORY IN FULL

The story goes roughly thus ... Threshers sent out a 40% off voucher to their suppliers, friends and families. One of those suppliers was a South African wine company called Stormhoek.

Now, Stormhoek is a relatively small company and instead of advertising, they decided to try blogging their way to fame and fortune. In order to do so, they enlisted the services of Hugh McLeod, the UK's best read blogger. He had made a name for himself with his Gaping Void website.

First up, he made Stormhoek famous by sending out bottles to other bloggers, who wrote about it and created something of a stir in cyberspace - case study HERE. Then they started offering bloggers wine for any parties that they might be hosting. Lovely.

Now, Stormhoek sent their Threshers voucher to Hugh. And Hugh suggested that they put a PDF of it for download on their website, while he posted a mention of it on his blog. Just to see what happened.

The outcome was that 800,000 vouchers were downloaded, everyone heard about it and the Stormhoek website got more hits than ... wait for it ... Threshers itself. Tho both did quite well as THIS chart shows. You can read all the bits and bobs on High's site as he tracked the Threshers Coupon meme through cyberspace. THIS was a nice post.

WII AMBASSADORS CAMPAIGN

The launch campaign for Nintendo Wii that caused a stir in the states is one that is worth mentioning ... shrouded in mystery as it may be.

Basically, it would appear that Nintendo offer free Wiis and party fodder (and booze of course) to a select number of bloggers - mums, apparently, were a core audience for the campaign. Surprise, surprise, they all wrote about it. At which point there appeared to be much debate about whether this was fair game, whether Nintendo were open enough about what they were doing and all manner of jumping up and down on the web by those who care about these things.

For more information, have a look at TheNewMarketing blog, which covered the story. Also worth a look is the ClubMom blog, with pieces and piccies posted by Tracey Clarke, one of Wii's "ambassadors".
