First up, do check out the OXFAM exhibition of Rankin photography - Cheka Kidogo. Shot in Democratic Republic of Congo (a theme in "Good Shizzle" this month), they are stunning portraits of the nation's people. And, given the generally deteriorating state of that particular country right now, this show couldn't have come at a better time, really ...
Next up is Double Club, which is well-worth a visit. It's the latest in a series of works created by the Fondazione Prada's Artistic Director Germano Celant with Belgian-born artist Carsten Höller. It's a pop-up bar and restaurant which is inspired by the artist's twin passions for Congolese and Western contemporary culture. A really interesting example of a brand creating an artistic fund creating a space that engages consumers in an innovative sort of way. Read more about it in The Times or Wallpaper* ...
Continuing the art and gallery theme, another new opening this month is Behind the Shutters, a new East End exhibition space. Their first show is by the simply stunning Mutoid Waste collective. A brilliantly odd assortment of sculptures created by the team in a triumphant return to these shores. There is a huge range of stuff to see - an ever-changing collection of loveliness.
And finally ... a couple of festive ones for you.
The Shop of Delight is coming to Covent Garden this Christmas, hosted by the Designers Block crew (they of the stunning East End design shows). As Designgers Block put it themselves ... it's the "first pop up thrift shop, a unique destination in the heart of Covent
Garden where people can find economical solutions to Christmas. Each
week will focus on a different thrifty theme showing people how to
make, bake, sew their own and reuse, turning unwanted goods into
presents via workshops." See you there!
In a similarly pop-up Xmas shop style, KIN has opened up in Kingly Court just off Carnaby Street. A whole range of limited edition prints and illustrations by some top folks (featuring the talents of Start Creative, Scrawl, JudgeGill and Breed), it's got some stunning work on offer. Will see you there, too!
