MY WEEK IN MEDIA ... JAMES
MediaWatch will be asking the lovely people of Seventy Seven about their media favourites, but will also be asking some folk from across FH Group, AMV and, who knows, perhaps beyond. We started (making it easy on ourselves) with James, managing partner and all-round nice chap ...
MediaWatch: What have you been unable to turn off on TV?
JGM: Er ... Not a massive amount, to be honest. Of late, the return of Grand Designs has been a good thing.
I'm not sure that there is a great deal else that I would say I watch religiously, to be honest. GMTV and BBC Breakfast alternately in the morning.
Then BBC News 24 and SKY News tend to kick around on the office screen. C4 News is my top piece of watching.
Oh, I quite liked Live at the Apollo. There's the stock panel games ... QI, HIGNFY, that sort of stuff. The Apprentice is shaping up nicely too ...
MediaWatch: What about the radio?
JGM: I wake up to Radio 4 Today Programme. For the media, if not the public, it still sets the news agenda and is also quite a handy way of finding out what the business stories are that will dominate the day.
Then there's any of Radio One, Radio Two, Magic, Heart, Virgin or XFM, depending on who happens to be in control of the dial in the office.
Then, once the day is done, it's either Radio Four or Radio Two at home. The missus is a big Chris Evans/Jonathan Ross fan. I, on the other hand, am a fan of the Now Show, News Quiz, Just a Minute and ISIHAC.
MediaWatch: And what about printed stuff, then?
JGM: Guardian on Mondays, The Times and Indy other days of the week. Weekends tend to be either The Times or The Guardian plus The Sun and Mirror on a Saturday and The Sunday Times or The Observer and NoW on Sundays.
Mags-wise, Esquire, Monocle and Creative Review are personal favourites. For work, whatever is needed. When it comes to the supps, STYLE is still one of the slickest, although Stella has some lovely pages. The Observer monthly magazines are still one of the best innovations in newspaper publishing for years, IMHO.
Media Watch: Tell me a bit about what keeps you occupied on the web (keep it clean, please)
JGM: Hmmm ... where to start?
Latest discoveries have been Oikonomics, which is an occasionally good read. Richard is always interesting. Favourite websites for me are Creative Review's blog, the Wolff Olins blog (which is kind of their website).
As you would have read on Spinning Around, Uniqlo Meets ... is a cracking new site for the brand and has been keeping me digitally engaged for a fair old while.
Other than that, there's a bunch of stuff that is so good in the old Netvibes feed ... The Moment, Hadley Freeman, High Snobiety, It's Nice That, the Johnson Banks Thought for the Week ... will that do?
